The current pricing for a two-person actor scene is comparable to professional headshots for 2 people - and not even in the high range.
That being said, some shoots require more/less labor than others and I also believe in equity, so if for some reason affordability is an issue we can negotiate and adjust this based on the project.
I’m putting in a lot more hours on set, before, and after than a headshot photographer and I have a lot more skills. Please read what the work entails below so you understand. I’m trying to make this as quality as possible sometimes to my detriment. I don’t have time to do multiple revisions or for you to approve every iteration of an edit especially if it is greenscreen or has visual effects. For good greenscreen work it can take days. Bring your best performance so that I can make the edit as strong as possible - a professional actor does not get to edit their work. I also do not have a script supervisor, so you have to be aware of continuity and your gestures and physical choices you are making so the edit will make sense. That being said I do want you to be as happy as possible so if you are feeling particularly insecure we can review before the edit so I can try to include ones you prefer but this should not be the norm. Oftentimes only a certain take can be used for continuity reasons or because certain performances cut together may not make sense. I do take at least 2 takes of each angle and if time allows we can take more.
My equipment is Netflix approved quality. I have invested a lot of money and time learning how to use it so we don't have to pay for additional crew/equipment. I don't even have all the equipment I need and I end up using any money for payment to buy more gear or pay for software subscriptions I need to make things look good. Keep in mind I'm very discerning about what I spend money on. I do my research and try to find the biggest bang for the buck. This business has yet to turn any profit and I'm still asking for less than would be fair compensation because I enjoy doing it and I care about quality. There is often a touch-up process in post-production that is unseen and unexpected with can add hours of labor. Because of my limitations of equipment or set locations, I often times have to do background post work as well.
I’ve frustratingly been approached by people who definitely have the money with complaints about the pricing (even when it was at a discount) when per hour I’ve made less than minimum wage for the work I’ve made to make them look good. There’s a difference between not being able to afford something and not paying someone what they’re worth by choice. I reserve the right to not work with difficult people that are not going to respect my time or expect my generosity as a requirement. I didn’t leave corporate work burnout so I could do the same with someone I have no relationship with at 1/10th of the price.
Currently, I'm performing all these specialized jobs to create your videos:
Please be aware that lighting a scene is not like lighting a headshot. It is not a setup you can use for every scene. It has to be crafted for the story and the space.
If we cannot shoot at my apartment I have to move the gear required and it is many trips back and forth to my car with all my equipment and I am a small person! If it is at my apartment it is easier but I still have to rearrange my apartment for the shoot. I will try to help you find locations if I have time but we have to work out the booking of locations that you will have to pay for separately. Sometimes we are able to find locations for free, such as at a public library.
Sometimes we can't secure ideal locations, requiring greenscreen or other visual effects to make scenes work. This demands extensive time and skill for computer-generated environments.
AI limitations: Current AI isn't advanced enough for this level of work. Most AI is limited by clip length and lacks the control needed for professional results. This is continuously evolving technology I stay current with, but most work is still done by hand.
